Dogs are carnivorous by nature but have adapted to the human palate over the years due to humans treating them similarly. Although some dogs will turn their noses up at fruits and vegetables, potatoes seem to pique their interest, especially the robust flavor of a sweet potato or yam. Either sweet potatoes, which tend to be more yellowish or yams, which are the potatoes with the deep orange hue, can be used to make this delicious dog treat recipe.
These orange-colored potatoes contain a high content of beta-carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A, an essential dietary need for healthy eyes, and Vitamin C which promotes healthy gums and skin.
The ingredients are shown in this photo:
If you want to color it, add your icing color in, then stir until smooth and creamy. Frost the dog cake.
Add
sprinkles on top if you desire. Then, let the frosting dry completely.
It will dry hard and will not need to be refrigerated.
Plan to sell the cake? You may wish to consider prolonging shelf-life with a mold inhibitor.

We
only use healthy human ingredients in the recipes provided so you do
not have to worry if you can share with your pet. This particular cake recipe is one of our favorites for ourselves!
For dog treat icing, cook the sweet potato as you would for yourself. Mash it up and make a sweet potato dog treat icing by substituting mashed sweet potatoes for regular mashed potatoes in this recipe.
Be sure to read the ingredients in the baby food you choose and make sure it does not include any ingredients toxic to dogs especially onion powder.
Potatoes are healthy, especially if cooked. Avoid green skins or green sprouts which contain a substance that can be toxic.
Sweet potatoes are a high fiber food source, just like pumpkin in
pumpkin dog treats, so you may not want to feed these dog snacks around
bedtime!
However,
due to the high fiber content, they will slow digestion down and cause
the natural sugar to be released slower and will not disrupt blood sugar
concentrations abruptly.
