Icing coloring

by Edna
(California)

Hi,

Wondering if it has to be special food coloring for decorating dog cakes? Can it be the food coloring bought at the supermarket?

Thanks!
Edna

Dog treat icing coloring
by: Dog Treat Icing Expert

Hi Edna. Thank you for your question.

It is best to use powdered colors or small amounts of the gel colors. The icing is sensitive to liquid. Adding liquid food coloring will increase the amount of liquid being added to the icing powder and could result in a runny icing. You would then have to add more powder to re-thicken it.
